Stagnum – our iconic wine, crafted for long ageing

Stagnum is the wine that redefined the perception of southern Dalmatian terroir - its grape varieties, traditions, and wine culture.

It is the purest expression of our work with Plavac Mali, crafted from grapes grown in old, hand-tended vineyards on the southern slopes of the Pelješac Peninsula, where site and harvest timing determine the wine's concentration, balance, and character.

Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts, after which the wine matures in large Slavonian oak barrels. These neutral barrels do not impart pronounced oak aromas, but instead allow for natural micro-oxygenation and slow, unhurried maturation. Stagnum ages in these barrels for up to six years, before continuing to develop complexity in the bottle.

The wine is unfiltered and contains only minimal sulphite additions, preserving its natural integrity. It is released only after approximately ten years of ageing - first in oak, then in bottle.

In the glass, it displays a beautiful ruby colour with delicate copper hues at the rim. Ripe dark fruit and subtle herbal notes define its character, leading to a long, persistent finish. It retains remarkable depth, freshness, fruit purity, and firm structure, carried by a quiet elegance. A wine created for long ageing and slow discovery.

Our wines

Our wines reflect the place, the grape variety, and the time in which they are made. They develop slowly, through a natural approach and years of ageing.

Visit us

A visit to the winery includes a guided tour of the cellar and an introduction to our approach to winemaking. This is followed by a tasting of our wines and olive oil in the very setting where they are created, overlooking the Pelješac landscape.

Philosophy

Our approach is rooted in respect for the vineyard and the natural course of winemaking. We believe that the character of each wine is shaped in the vine and the soil from which it comes.
